If there’s one thing I know it’s leading a full and somewhat busy life, I also know that when I’m down it takes a while for me to get back up again so prevention is always the key, and it should be for you too.

Studying Natural Health Science in the past has put me miles in front of understanding the ins and outs of this BUT I don’t always practice what I preach (naughty I know). If only we took as much care for ourselves, our bodies and mind as we did our schedules then it would be a much healthier planet!

I now prefer to streamline everything – rather than taking 20 supplements I find ones that do multiple things for me. Rather than doing several exercise classes, I go to something that gives me all I need in one class – a mix of strength, cardio and stretching.

SUPPLEMENTS

When taking supplements I generally go for ones that are Practitioner Grade – or brands where I’ve done a lot of research around. No one has time for fillers and poor-quality products!

Medlab is one that gets the green tick of approval and I’ve taken their supplements for years, so when I had the chance to work with them to share my faves I jumped at the chance, so here are just 2 – out of a very comprehensive range:

Manuka-C™ is scientifically formulated to support optimal immune system function. It includes evidence-based ingredients containing a blend of three ascorbates and glutathione combined with Manuka honey powder. Ascorbic acid and zinc are vital for the optimal functioning of the immune system including the anti-microbial activity of white blood cells. Glutathione assists with the physiological role of ascorbic acid within the cell.

Immune-5™ is a scientifically-based combination of select first line immune modulating nutrients, together with two specific probiotic species shown to assist with immune function. ResistAid™ is a prebiotic soluble fibre with immune modulating properties while Lactoferrin is a naturally occurring protein found in the body with a positive effect on the immune system. Colostrum provides important innate immune supporting proteins including the antibody IgG that both activates and modulate the body defence processes.

NOURISH

Outside of supplementation what you consume is just as important as what you don’t. So just because you said no that donut doesn’t mean much when you’ve skipped lunch because you’re too busy. Your body needs a constant stream of nutrients to balance your blood sugars – well we all know the term hangry and that exists for a reason!

I’ve also found that sticking to one cup of coffee is my sweet spot, not because too much makes me anxious, but it fills up too much of my tummy and fools my brain into thinking I’m full. Less food makes me a less of a human in every way possible, I fade in energy too quickly and I’m even quicker to anger (hello liver). Upping my water however is a game changer, especially as I get older (tear).

EXERCISE

While my stance on exercise has certainly changed the older I get, what my body needs has also changed. I don’t need to thrash my body in the gym 7 days a week BUT it does need to move in someway everyday. Someday that may just be a walk, others it may be a HIIT or yoga – it doesn’t matter, a happy mind is a happy body that has moved!

What about you? What are your non-negotiables when it comes to boosting your immune system?
