Today’s inspirational meet are two fun lovin’ sisters who are both passionate about living healthy and active lives. They are the creators of Sweat and Oranges www.sweatandoranges.com.au and owner of one kick ass Instagram account!

For the people who aren’t familiar with you (or just want to know more), tell us a bit about yourself .

We are sisters and best friends, Jayne, the SWEAT in sweatandoranges, a personal trainer, kettlebell enthusiast, dog lover, balanced lifestyle believer and pregnant with her first bub. And Katie, the ORANGES, a green juice addict, exercise lover, healthy lifestyle enthusiast, Nutrition student, wife and fur mumma.

What made you choose the path of leading a healthy life and was there a particular turning point?

From a young age we both were very active, however we ate pretty much what we wanted until our bodies told us otherwise. As Jayne’s fitness increased with her love of PT and Katie’s love of Nutrition, we both encouraged each other and ended up with Sweat and Oranges.

What does your usual daily routine look like – what is on your ‘must do’ and ‘must take’ list?

We start our morning with a glass of warm water and lemon to get a our digestive system firing, enhance immunity and alkalize our system. Following this with our daily green juice, this is pure liquid gold and definitely sets the tone for the rest of the day. Brekky is normally porridge in the warmer months with poached pear, or overnight oats with natural yoghurt and berries during summer. We both like to walk everyday and fit in a good workout a few times a week, either a circuit, Pilates class, or a swim. Being prepared is key to healthy living, so we ensure we always have lunch and snacks packed when we are at work and on the go. Raw organic nuts and seeds, fresh fruit or homemade protein balls are always in our handbags, along with a bottle of water to keep hydrated. We like to wind down with a cup of herbal tea and a good book to reflect and recharge for the next day!

Let’s take a peek in your bathroom cupboard – what are your must have products?

One half of us is a beauty therapist (Katie) so we are big fans of beauty routines and products to boot. We love Aesop skin care, including their cleansers, exfoliants, facial masques, hydrators and facial oils. Daily body brushing is really important to stimulating the lymphatic system and keeping skin smooth. Applying body cream daily is a priority (particularly Jayne’s belly at the moment!). Although we both spend A LOT of our time in exercise gear we are still quite girly and enjoy having our nails and hair done!

What do you always have in your kitchen (both fridge and supplements)?

Greens, greens and more greens!! Plenty of seasonal fruit and vegetables including, apples, pears, lemons, cucumbers, avocados, oranges, bananas, mandarins, celery, broccoli, bok-choy, organic yoghurt, coconut water, eggs, kombucha, organic butter, oats, chia seeds, coconut butter, raw cacao powder, wholemeal spelt flour, protein powder, and organic frozen berries. A few supplements we have on hand include practitioner grade vitamins, Echinacea, zinc, probiotics and fish oil supplements.

How important is clean, nutrient rich food in your diet? Do you follow a certain style (ie raw, vegan, paleo etc)

Eating well is a way of life for us! We don’t follow any particular diet, but enjoy fresh local produce, preferably organic with a few treats in there for good measure. We focus on real food, and try not to eat too much from a packet, in fact when Katie designed her kitchen she wasn’t concerned that her pantry was tiny, as long as there was a big fridge to store all her greens, that was the most important thing! In summer we may lend towards more raw foods, and winter more warming foods. We do eat meat, but ensure it’s from organic and ethical farmers.

How do you like to move and keep fit? Is exercise an important part of your life?

We move every day!! Our motto is move every day and some days go harder. We love daily walks, incidental exercise (hello stairs!), kettlebells, interval training, yoga, Pilates, swimming, and soft sand running. Our bodies are designed to move daily, and we feel so much better when we do. Your day just runs better when you get that hit of endorphins, you can think clearer, you have more energy, and we guarantee you will sleep better!

Who or what has been the biggest influence on your health journey?

We adore the Move Nourish Believe philosophy by Lorna Jane and live by this every day!

Currently loving:

Coconut Water, Raw Cacao, Cod Liver Oil (for EFA’s and Vit D during winter), Homemade Almond Milk, Sheep Milk Yoghurt. Sorry we couldn’t stop at just 3 J

Fave local cafe or restaurant?

The Vegie Bar in Brunswick, Melbourne is a fav! We also love a good Italian restaurant and Jayne picked up a nasty habit of drinking coffee now and then whilst living in London, so you can often find her in between PT sessions working in some of Melbourne’s fabulous cafes including Two Birds One Stone.

As your parting gift to us – what is your favourite recipe:

Raw Cacao Protein balls

cocao balls

Ingredients:

1 c medjool dates

1 c walnuts

1/2 c desiccated coconut

1/4 c raw cocoa

2 tablespoons ground flax seeds

2 tablespoons coconut butter (oil).

Method:

Chop up dates and walnuts, then mix everything together, and form into balls. Sometimes before I roll the mix I might put it all in a food processor to get a really nice texture! Coat in a little coconut, and store in the fridge. Enjoy!
